Brook Bay

The second location for the day was Brook Bay. Alister and Alison accessed this from Shippards Chine and walking East, whilst Ian and Glenda parked at the East end of Brook Bay and walked West. Both parties met in the middle. Again, although the tide had been quite high, it had also left a great deal of sand on the beach. There were some very small areas of shingle but nothing was found. During the right conditions, simply searching in these shingle areas can yield teeth and fragments of dinosaur bone. But today wasn't going to be the day.

Brook Bay starts with the Wessex Formation, at low tide, dinosaur footprints can be seen with Ripple Marks. The Wessex Formation contains all the way to Compton Bay . We tried to find the Plant Debris Bed, a thick grey band full of plant remains, conifers, fish and reptile remains, but this was covered up. The bed can be recognised by having a lot of lignite present.
